Tigers Deja Vu All Over Again

Tigers placed RHP Joel Zumaya on the 15-day disabled list with a sore right shoulder.
Manager Jim Leyland made it very clear Tuesday that he's not counting on Zumaya contributing again until next season, so the Tigers may decide to simply shut him down for good with Todd Jones scheduled to come off the disabled list Friday. Fernando Rodney is the favorite for saves right now, but Jones could easily get back into the mix. Zumaya has a 3.47 ERA and 22/22 K/BB ratio in 23 1/3 innings and has thrown a total of just 57 innings since the start of last season.
How many more times will we being seeing this? Shutting Zumaya down is the smart thing to do. Zumaya was fun to watch when he first came up throwing 103 mph heat. Now it looks like he will be a DH All Star for most of his career. The Tigers have had such a disappointing season but injuries aren't the reason like the Indians. The Tigers built a team around offense instead of addressing their pitching. Even that great offense did come through.

Re: Deja Vu All Over Again

The Detroit News reports that Joel Zumaya landed on the disabled list Wednesday due to tearing scar tissue in his surgically repaired shoulder.
That actually qualifies as good news, because it's not a new injury or structural damage, but Zumaya is still unlikely to pitch again this season. "Great news," manager Jim Leyland said. "No problem with the rotator cuff, or elbow, or shoulder. That's a great relief for Joel. Hopefully, he'll be ready for spring training."
I guess an injury like this is good news. Sounds like a chronic problem to me.
