    Robertson Signs 3 Year Deal

Tigers agreed to terms with LHP Nate Robertson on a three-year, $21.25 million contract.
It's the going rate for No. 4 starters, but Robertson just isn't looking like a very good bet going forward. He's never put together six good months, as he tends to fade as each year goes on, and he's turning into more of a flyball pitcher with every year that goes by. We wouldn't be surprised to see the Tigers attempt to move him next winter.
What do Kris Benson and Nate Robertson have in common? They weren't that good and got $7 mil/yr.

Really, in today's game (with Carlos Silva getting $12M/year from the Mariners), this is not a bad signing. Robertson will never be a Cy Young contender, but he takes the ball every 5th day and does OK with it.

Just doing "OK" shouldn't get you $7 mil/yr.

He is a good guy to have around and eat up some innings. He may improve as he gains more experience.

What would you call the Mariners signing of Carlos Silva? He is nto a "great" pitcher and got $12M/year.
Seriously, Robertson is a young guy that is still learning. He could have a breakout season, if he can stay healthy.

Hopefully one of these seasons Robertson breaks out. As of now, he is very inconsistent. The quote in the original post was dead on.
