There are indications that the Tigers have offered LaTroy Hawkins a multi-year contract, according to the Detroit Free Press.
With Joel Zumaya out until midseason following shoulder surgery, Hawkins could fill a setup role in front of closer Todd Jones. While no longer the overpowering strikeout threat that he was early in his career, Hawkins had a 3.42 ERA in 55 1/3 innings with the Rockies in 2007 and has posted a better than average ERA in six straight seasons.
Hawkins as the main setup guy is a horrible idea. The Tigers need to do better than this. I don't mind him be a 6th or 7th inning guy. This will help the Tigers but only if isn't the main guy you go to towards setting up Jones.
