Helton's willing to take more games off

Todd Helton, who has played in 159 or more games four times in his career, is open to taking a few more days off this season.
Helton played in 144 games in a 2005 season that included his first ever stint on the DL. Part of the reason he's open to sitting against the occasional left-hander is Ryan Shealy's presence on the team. "I noticed the biggest difference and felt better when I had consecutive days off," said Helton, alluding to sitting out a game followed by an off day. "And if Shealy's on the team, we saw what he can do at first base. He should be playing there in the big leagues." Helton is still likely to start at least 150 games if healthy.

I am just glad to see that Shealy will be getting some more chances to play. Coming up behind Helton is pretty bittersweet, since Colorado kicks ass to play in, but he's behind an elite 1B who seemly never misses games. I have good feelings about Helton, although I'm beginning to wonder if the Rockies will become competitive within the next decade. Poor Todd...

Helton's not getting any younger and the Rockies aren't going anywhere so why not. Todd signing that 10 year deal was the dumbest thing he could have done. He knew this team wouldn't go out and big names.

Whenever his contract ends, I can't wait to see how desperate he'll be to get to a winner...
