Miceli might be next on DL for Colorado

    August 6, 2005

PHOENIX - Rockies reliever Dan Miceli will undergo a magnetic resonance imaging exam on his right foot Monday.

Miceli was hit by a line drive off the bat of Michael Tucker in San Francisco on Thursday, and when he woke up Friday morning the foot was swollen and sore.

Miceli limped noticeably Friday when he arrived at Bank One Ballpark.

An X-ray taken on Friday night was negative, but manager Clint Hurdle said Miceli will not be available for the weekend series against Arizona and will be examined by team doctors when the Rockies return home Monday.

"We'll re-evaluate him at that time," Hurdle said.

Miceli could add to the Rockies' staggering list of injured players. They already have seven on the disabled list, including Jason Jennings, the ace of the rotation, projected closer Chin-hui Tsao, first baseman Todd Helton and shortstop Clint Barmes.

They already have used the disabled list 18 times, including twice for Tsao. He opened the season on the disabled list because of right shoulder inflammation, then after being activated April 12, he was shut down for the season a month later. He since has undergone right shoulder surgery.

    Every week it's a new injury .

    Mmmm...Rockies pitching injuries.

You know what, the Rockies have been in the league for 12 years or so. I'm really curious whether getting good pitchers is worth it, can they be effective in Coors? Should the Rockies load up on offense and try to win every game 11-10?

I'd go for the hitting, ala my Strikes Back Sim League team . I think pitchers can succeed here, it's just gonna be hard to find the right guys and they often only work for one year.

I wonder if Cincinnati is going to be in this same category soon.

Possibly. I think part of the problem is Coors is the pitcher's get it in their heads that they can't succeed.
