Rockies signed 1B Jason Giambi to a minor league contract.
An easy decision for the Rox, no doubt. Giambi is not the most versatile bench player, but he still has a somewhat dangerous bat and he seems to be a nice presence in the clubhouse. The 40-year-old will probably serve only as a late-innings pinch-hitter for Colorado this season.
Giambi will probably have a hard to making the team with Wiggington and Jose Lopez both being able to back up Helton while playing other positions. He is still an on base machine so if he doesn't make the Rockies out of ST, some other team might take a chance.
