    Rockies Morales Sent Down

Rockies optioned LHP Franklin Morales to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Morales' six impressive innings of one-run ball couldn't save him from the demotion, but it was likely enough to earn another start on April 21. His next two minor league starts will be telling.
Morales was sent down to make room for Jason Hammel, a guy who was out of option for the Rays. Morales was probably the most impressive pitcher so far this week outside of Josh Beckett. Why send him down for Hammel?

Wow, bad move. I saw his good strikeouts today, and I thought to myself. Why didn't the Rays trade him for Hammel.

Yeah, right, like any team is going to give up much for a pitcher who the Rays ran out of options for and would have lost to another team through waivers anyway. It's called leverage.

The Rockies gave up a pretty solid relief prospect.

Yes, they did. But he's not Franklin Morales. They would have to be stupid to give up Morales for Hammel.

They didn't give him up, just sent him down.

I know that. You're missing the point. Rays fan here thought his team had a chance at getting Morales for Hammel.

I never said we could. I just said why not make an offer for him.

We'll see morales in a week or 2 and we'll see hammel in the pen everyday, I think the Rays did just fine without morales, who there is no chance they coulda got for hammel

Rays were better off without Morales anyway. Now they can develop the reliever they got Rodriguez instead of letting Morales rot in AAA. Rodriguez was ranked the 16th best prospect in the Rockies farm system.

Franklin Morales threw five scoreless innings Wednesday in his first start since being sent down to Triple-A. Smart move.

    Re: Morales Sent Down

Franklin Morales has rejoined the team and will be activated prior to his start on Tuesday.
Morales was impressive in his season-opening start against Arizona, throwing six innings of one-run ball. He was sent to Triple-A Colorado Springs after the game. Morales will face the Diamondbacks again this time around, squaring off against Yusmeiro Petit
Should have never been sent down.

Morales is now on the 15 DL. What a crazy season for this guy!
