Rockies acquired outfielder Matt Murton from the Athletics for infielder Corey Wimberly.
The A's gave Murton all of 30 at-bats after picking him up in the Rich Harden deal last year and then kept him in the minors throughout August and September. He was never in their plans at all. A move to the Rockies gives him the possibility for a fresh start in a ballpark that is perfectly suited for someone with his gap power. Still, he won't be any kind of lock to make the team. Ian Stewart and Seth Smith are the favorites to start in left field.
Murton could make the team but if not the Rockies have a decent OFer in AAA. Rockies OF situation is all up the air outside of Hawpe. Rockies gave up a second baseman who hit .291/.370 with 59 steals in AA last year.
