Rockies placed LHP Jeff Francis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 29, with shoulder inflammation.
Mark Redman will start in his place Thursday. Francis said he feels pain during some warmup pitches late in games, but that eventually goes away. "It’s not like I can’t go out and pitch," Francis said. "It’s not like I throw with pain." Still, the Rockies thought it was best to shut him down for a couple of weeks. He'll probably be lined up to return at the end of the month.
The Rockies have been plagued by injuries all year. Holliday, Tulo, Barmes, Wells and Hawpe have all been on the DL and really hurt this team. They had a miracl run last year but this year just wasn't meant to be.
