Barmes to undergo surgery Tuesday

DENVER -- Colorado Rockies shortstop Clint Barmes will undergo surgery tomorrow (Tuesday, June 7) to repair a fractured left clavicle. He is expected to miss a minimum of 12 weeks.

The surgery will be performed by Rockies Medical Director Dr. Thomas J. Noonan at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Denver. Dr. Noonan will re-set the fracture with the insertion of a plate.

Barmes suffered the injury at his home on Sunday evening (June 5) after taking a fall while carrying groceries up a flight of steps.

The 26-year-old was leading all National League rookies in nearly every offensive category this season, including batting average (.329), runs (40), hits (74), doubles (16), home runs (8), RBI (34), total bases (116) and multi-hit games (22). He currently ranks seventh overall in the league in batting average, tied for third in multi-hit games, tied for fourth in hits, tied for fifth in runs scored, ranks sixth in total bases and tied for seventh in doubles.

Well this is no good. He was having such an amazing year and was atleast my favorite for rookie of the year. Such a shame to see him get injured in a fall at home and not on the field. Glad to hear he is alright though. I don't want to see him back this year. Give him until next spring to recover and let him come back fully healthy as we go for the Pennant with a new bullpen in 2006
