Rockies No extension likely for Matt Holliday.

    http://www.rotoworld.com/content/pla...lter_teams=COL

The Rockies haven't discussed a multiyear deal with Matt Holliday since he hired Scott Boras as his agent 14 months ago.
The thinking is that any player who hires Boras as an agent is automatically going to wait for free agency and then go to the highest bidder. "It's ridiculous. They look at Scott and say he's bad for baseball. But he's great at what he does and he works for me," Holliday said. "It will ultimately be my decision." Holliday won't be eligible for free agency until after 2009. He's due $4.4 million this season after agreeing to a one-year deal last month.
Boras is "good at what he does"...I agree, he's great at taking advantage of a corrupt system.

I went to a Rockies game last and it just happen to be Matt Holiday night and got a free t-shirt with his name and number on the back. Matt Holiday is an extremely popular player for the Rockies in Colorado. If I was management, I would consider signing him with an extension. Unless he doesn't perform well and he looses favor with the fans. It sounds like management has time, and with Boras being his agent, I am sure they have hesitation with talking ahead of time!!! Boras clients usually go to the highest bidder!!! It all about $$$$!!! No loyality anymore, but when there is money to make I guess I would do the same.

Quite frankly, Denver fans really don't give two shits about any team that wasn't graced by Horseface and Ratface. Matt Holliday need not to worry about his popularity with his half a dozen fans.

They care about The Broncos and Avalanche. At least that is my impression, and when I was out there last summer with the wife, the Rockies fans seemed good too. I could be wrong, I have been in the past and I know I will in the future as well! Question for you, who is ratface and horseface? Just curious?

    They like the Avalance there.

Not quite as much as the Donkeys, but they do have a good fanbase.

    Rockies

    Correction.

We used to love the Rockies, were fanatical about them and set attendance records for some pretty poor teams.

Then we got tired of watching every good player (except Helton) get shipped off when it came time to show them the $.
Oh, and they just tried that with Helton, too.

The management says they can't afford to pay them, we're a "small market" team. Well, pay the guys and put good teams on the field and maybe we'll fill that stadium again.

It's sad, but I myself haven't been to a game since maybe 2001 or 2002. I'm tired of being disapointed.

I watched the "History of the Broncos" DVD recently.

You guys filled the stadium for years on end for a bunch of shitty teams before the Broncos finally became a powerhouse.

Why do you not do the same for the Rockies?

As for the "small market" claim, it's a fact of life in the financial world of baseball. They really don't have much control over it.

That said, they shouldn't use it as an excuse for not putting together a winning team. Other small market teams have produced winning teams, so it can be done.

Well, there are a lot more teams to support now and a lot of activities to do as well. The Broncos were IT for many many years.

We gave the Rox a ton of fan support for about 8 years, and then it just got old with the same thing year after year.

I'll still watch, and I will still hope for a successful season but I just don't have the passion I once had for them. Will it come back with a competitive team? Hopefully.

Holliday, Atkins, Helton, Hawpe shows the have a good farm system. Rockies would be dumb to get rid of that core of Holliday, Hawpe and Atkins. Rockies just need to get "real" pitcher and not overpay for guys like Mike Hampton.

Ahem, it was brought to my attention that there's not one message board out there devoted mainly to the Rockies, save for the comment section in SB Nation's Purple Row blog and the official team site, if you want to even call that a fan forum. A terrible fan base.

So, except for those two huh?

What's your point? We were #11 in attendance, ahead of bigger markets like Houston, Atlanta, Chicago W.S., Rangers, etc.

It's also still a fairly young fanbase, and compared to other expansion teams is doing just fine.

But go ahead and fell all high and mighty.
