    Indians Are Eliminated

Indians can't beat White Sox, fall short in AL wild-card race
    Oct. 2, 2005
    CBS SportsLine.com wire reports

CLEVELAND -- In the end, the Cleveland Indians' unexpected comeback came up a little short. With playoff baseball again in their sights, and when games mattered most, they simply collapsed.

Needing a win and then help from the New York Yankees to force a one-game playoff with Boston for the AL wild card, Cleveland dropped its season finale 3-1 to the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.

The loss concluded a disastrous final week for the Indians (93-69), who dropped six of their last seven games and missed the playoffs for the fourth straight season. The defeat also handed the wild card to the Red Sox -- a postseason spot that appeared to belong to Cleveland just a few days ago.

How ironic (and truly fitting) it is that everyone was saying how the White Sox would choke, yet in the end it is the Tribe who choked.

Oh please, everyone knew in spring training that this team wasn't ready for the post season. And after playing well all through the second half, it finally showed this weekend. The Indians are the favorite to win the AL Central next year with the added expirience they got.

I'm proud of my Indians, even though they choked at the end.Who expected them to win 93 games and challenge for the division and wild card (especially when we were down by so many games in August)?I expected a 75-80 win season and a playoff push next year.
    Cleveland Indians : 0-5, 5th AL Central
Pittsburgh Pirates Record: 3-2. 1st NL Central
