    Indians Reliever Seriously Injured

Indians reliever Juan Lara was seriously injured Saturday night in an automobile accident in the Dominican Republic.
Lara suffered what an Indians spokesman called "life-threatening injuries" when the car he was in was struck by a motorcycle at an intersection. The two riders on the motorcycle were killed instantly. "We are monitoring the situation closely," GM Mark Shapiro saud. "Our prayers are with Juan and his family."
Hopefully he can make a full recovery and make the big leagues once again. Baseball has already lost one of their own this offseason and do not need to lose another one.

Wow. This is too bad. He is a quality guy and a good pitcher. I hope he makes a complete recovery and can make it back to the mound eventually.

Juan Lara remained hospitalized in critical condition Monday with a head injury sustained in an accident Saturday night that killed two people.
Lara has a perforated lung and a blood clot from the head injury. He is breathing with help from a ventilator. "The prognosis for Juan is day to day for the moment," said Jose Mallen, the president of Lara's winter league team in the Dominican Republic. "The doctors say they have to see what develops with the blood clot. Otherwise they would have to operate on it." It's possible that Lara will be transported to the U.S. for surgery.
This isn't looking good for Lara. Hopefully they can get him to the US as quick as possible before its too late.

They have to get him stabilized prior to moving him that distance. He wouldn't survive the trip at this time, IMO. We can only hope he survives at this time. Thinking about him pitching again is quite a way down the road.

Juan Lara remains in critical condition following Saturday's accident in the Dominican Republic. Doctors found he had a spinal fracture, plus severe brain trauma.
"Juan's condition is very fragile. In the last medical report we found that he has a severe brain trauma, and we also found a fracture in the spinal column, with the D2 (second vertebra) in an unstable condition," hospital spokeswoman Dashira Martinez told The Associated Press. It's as of yet unknown whether Lara will suffer from paralysis if he pulls through.
It looks as though his playing days are over. Let's hope he can make it thorugh this and have as close to a normal life as possible.

He's lucky that a major league baseball team pays his hospital bills.

Stable condition just means that he won't die anytime soon. He is improving.

Let's just hope his brain is functioning correctly and will be as close to normal as possible.

    Re: Indians Reliever Seriously Injured

Juan Lara underwent surgery Sunday to have his spine stabilized and a fractured arm repaired.
Lara had the operations two days after being moved from the Dominican Republic to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. The Indians said after he's released from the Clinic he will return to the Dominican Republic for treatment. It's unclear when that might happen.
Does the Dominican Republic have better medical facilities than Ohio? If not, leave him the **** here!!
