You'll never guess what the Reds just signed

    ANOTHER OUTFIELDER!!!

    per Marc's Blog:

SARASOTA -- The Reds have signed outfielder Terrence Long to a minor league contract. He's been in the majors all of the last five seasons, most recently with the Royals last year. I have no doubt that his .319 career OBP will incite more unrest, but I'd say this is a pretty low-risk move.

    Also:

LaRue's surgery this morning took about 30 minutes and he's expected back at the ballpark by this afternoon.
The Reds have released outfielder Stephen Smitherman.
This is getting freaking ridiculous. Call me crazy but I am more clueless with Krivsky's fascination with outfielders than I ever was with DanO's 2B love. What do we need all these outfielders for?

Griffey, Dunn, Kearns, Cruz, Denorfia, Sanchez, Long, Buchanan, Stratton, McCracken, Wise, Abad, Kata, Freel...

    getting a little old IMO.

Yeah, enough with the outfielders already. What you guys need is a catcher.

I am seeing a massive deficiency at first base.

And I am seeing a massive influx of outfielders.

    Thus, I am... confused.

    Repeat after me:
Hatteberg is OK as a bench player.
Hatteberg is NOT ok as a starter.
    Hatteberg is old.
Hatteberg has seen a decrease in production.
Hatteberg is lacking to say the least in the power department and fielding department.

We do not need another shitty OF. Jesus. Sign Pena Krivsky, you've already missed out on Choi and I am doubting that another good potential youngish 1B will become free on the market.

definitely should grab Pena. If he doesn't and he passes through us, I will be at a loss. I will really be questioning his ability to GM already. We are all awaiting an explanation to the Ross signing and all the outfielders and we ought to get an answer. Sign Pena!

You should already be questioning his ability to GM, frankly.

Someone should sign Smithers-man, he so owns in OOTP.

Er. I didn't realize bam bam hit it Long was still in baseball after his unamusing stint in Oakland.

There stockpiling outfielders because one or more of them will be dealt. This team is priming itself to make a couple of deals before next Monday.

You think one of our big three outfielders could be in the plan?

I wouldn't be surprised. I think Dunn is probably safe, unless he requested a trade that we don't know about. Its either Kearns of Junior, with my money being on Junior. He is, right now, at the highest trade value since we got him. He could probably command a #2 or, maybe, a #1 depending on the team he is dealt to. He could also probably command a high quality 1B (not a big name, but a pretty good prospect type or established youngster). When you look at the two outfielders that we just acquired (Sanchez and Long), they both can play CF, with CF being Long's natural position. Plus, I think Junior is the OF that they probably want to move.

It looks like they are grabbing the OF to make sure Denorfia is on the bench in AAA. I agree this is getting stupid. Another mystery from the FO for sure.

Even if we trade an outfielder, the logic in signing Terrence Long to take over is baffling.

I heard Al Leiter is available, maybe he'll come out of retirement.
