Janish is interesting. Great defensively but has never shown he can swing the bat. I'd say his ceiling is probably Jack Wilson.

Well, at least he is hitting so far this season. Currently he is batting .412/.389/.500 so far this year in 8 games. Last year in Dayton, in 55 games, .245/.346/.385. Hopefully he can keep this up and get a promotion soon to Sarasota.

Let's just hope for the sake of baseball that he won't see a Jack Wilson type contract.

I just remember the last time I saw Janish's stats, a few days ago, he was hitting .440 with no walks, one sacrifice, and no extra base hits, meaning he had a lower OBP than his average and his average was the same as his slugging percentage. Not exactly encouraging.

Janish has shown a pretty good eye in his first two seasons in the minors actually. Particularly in 2004 with Billings. Walked 45 times, struck out 45 times and put up a .263/.406/.346 line in 205 AB. Still 23, so he has 2 more years or so before I give up on him.

I think he came out of Rice (maybe Baylor), but he did enter the draft from college.

He came out of Rice. Turns 24 after this season.

It'd be nice to see him in AA by the end of the year.

Wow, i saw in this mornings paper that the Bats lost 4-0..(as said before) and saw that Wags got all 4 runs charged to him. Wasn't expecting him to get hit with 4 ER's. Well doesnt look like he'll be in Cincy for a while now.

While I agree with you that its not encouraging, at least progress is being made. I would rather have him at .440 with no walks than .240 with no walks, like most of last year. By the way, last year, in Dayton, he had 29 BB and 38 K. Just for reference to see what happens this season.
