Reds looking for a new 1B coach: should have something in the next few days

MAKING A LIST - By midday Friday, Jerry Narron was able to rattle off four internal candidates for the first base coaching job vacated by John Moses the day before.
Reds consultant Ken Griffey Sr., part-time outfield and bunting instructor Ed Napoleon, minor league outfield and baserunning coordinator Lynn Jones and newly hired advance scout Pete Mackanin all will be interviewed for the position.
"These are four legitimate guys in our organization right now," Narron said.
Mackanin and Jones have the most recent experience in a similar capacity. Jones spent the last two years coaching first base for the Boston Red Sox, while Mackanin was the bench coach in Pittsburgh the last three seasons.
Napoleon, who has 50 years of experience playing or coaching baseball, has been a regular presence around the team the last two seasons, spending all of spring training in camp and making the occasional appearance during the regular season. Griffey was a Reds coach from 1997-2001 and has mostly focused on scouting in recent years. He's scheduled to be on the U.S. coaching staff at the World Baseball Classic, but could drop out if the Reds want him to replace Moses.
Narron plans to make a decision within the next few days.
"I sure hope so," he said.

I knind of like the idea of having Griffey Sr. on the coaching staff again. we all know that he is the one man that gets through to Griffey Jr. when he is in a slump. It would be nice to have his dad right there for him throughout the season. But I am not too sure about Sr.'s ability to coach base running.

Napolean sounds like a good candidate as far as experience goes. I wonder what Krivsky and co. are going to be looking at here.

Krivsky probably has nothing to do with who we pick. It's gonna be Narron's choice.

I like Griffey for the job.

And if Narron goes too, Griffey could be an option.

Billy Hatcher is also up for the job, now. I wouldn't mind him.

Hatcher got the job, according to Cincinnati TV news reports.

Hatcher was on the 1990 World Series team and had 218 career stolen bases. Yes, he has baserunning experience.

Hatcher was pretty aggressive on the bases. He seems to have a very good personality from all I've heard from him. I like this move.

On that note, if you have a third base coach in A or Rookie League that you want to unload, we'll trade you a bag of balls AND Dale Sveum to you.

From what you guys are saying, I like it then too. As long as he can do his job well and that is to help with baserunning and I guess some outfield work. Sounds pretty good to me.

Hatcher has also been first base coach for the D-Rays for like five years. Despite how awful that team is, they are good at running the bases.

Is Castinelli trying to bring the entire 1990 team under management to make it easier to celebrate them at some future point? LOL.

I like this move from what everyones been saying.
