Sickels- Crystal Ball: Wily Mo Pena

In this case, I expect that Pena's career WILL look something like this: a couple of very strong seasons, interspersed with frustrating performance, lots of strikeouts, etc., followed by a quick fade in his early 30s.

people don' give Wily enough credit. He's so young, and he never really got the full minor league treatment, so he may be a year or two behind developmentally. So that would put him at 21 or so as far as baseball polish goes and he's already had a 25 HR season.

He works hard, and with propper instruction, he's going to be an absolute beast.

He's never going to be an absolute beast unless he gets a better eye, though he has improved over the course of this season. He's got the power and could hit .300 if he didn't swing at so much stuff outside of the strikezone, but his defense has a long way to go along with his eye.

isn't that sort of saying he's never going to be great unless he gets better? I guess i'm saying he's got a good chance of getting better.

I'm with Sickels. I think he will be inconsistent. That's been my biggest issue with him so far and I think the inconsistency will continue.

Homer: We're proud of you, boy.

Bart: Thanks, Dad. But part of this D-minus belongs to God.

I think Sickels is lowballing him a bit in the homerun category. I just can't see Wily Mo hitting 21 or 22 in a season with over 400 ABs.
