    tidbit on Belisle

    From baseball prospectus:

Top 5 NL Rookie Pitchers, by Value Over Replacement Player (VORP)

    Player, Team, IP, VORP

    Zach Duke, PIT, 46.7, 20.7
    Rob Tejeda, PHI, 61.0, 17.7
    Gary Majewski, WAS, 51.3, 12.2
    Brad Halsey, ARI, 131.3, 11.4
    Matt Belisle, CIN, 66.7, 11.0

hopefully belisle, wagner, coffee, shankelford, and standrige can improve on this year and be a solid pen for a few years to come. All are relatively young and have shown serious signs of life.

I am thinking that Belisle is a pleasant surprise. I know he has been up on the prospect list, but did we really expect him to be better than Wagner or coffey. Those two guys were thought about as our future at the beginning of this year, yet Belisle has surpassed them this season.

I like the way our young bullpen looks. Standridge is scoreless in 12 IP his last 10 games! I think this guy is on his way as well!

Good news to hear. I liked him when he was in the Braves system.

I think I am thinking of the right guy.. maybe not. What's going on with Bubba Nelson?

Nelson has a had nice bounceback year after being lousy in 2004. He's in AA as the closer, not dominating but he's posted a pretty good K/9. I doubt he will live up to the hype he once had, but I can see him developing into a solid reliever.

I hope Nelson develops into something, because Bong's gonna be completely useless.

Shankelford and Standrige have pitched great out of the pen since they have been up with the reds.
