Fire Dusty (AGAIN!) 2013 Reds Rumblings

Rolen not showing up to Spring Training means he's probably handing up the cleats.

Avoiding arbitration with Latos with a reported 2 year $11.5 mil deal is a good thing to keep the handle on the rotation.

Things to watch in spring training

    1) Chapman to starter v2.0.
    2) Armando Galarraga trying for a roster spot

    More to come.

Re: Fire Dusty (AGAIN!) 2013 Reds Rumblings

Devin Mesoraco began last season as the top rated prospect in the Reds
organization, and 14th rated prospect in MLB.
During the season he basically caught two out of every five games. The
24-year old struggled at the plate: .210, 5 HR, 14 RBI in 52 games and
162 plate appearances. His season really turned at the end of July:
*July 30, suffered concussion in collision with San Diego OF Cameron
Maybin, ejected after making contact with umpire Chad Fairchild.
*Aug 1, suspended three games, placed on 7 day DL for concussion
    *Aug 9, reinstated from DL
    *Aug 9-20, appeared in 6 ML games (3 for 22 .136)
*Aug 21, suspension reduced to two games
    *Aug 21-22 served suspension
    *Aug 23, demoted to Louisville
    *Aug 25-31, appeared in 5 games at Louisville (3 for 18 .167)
    *Sept 3 recalled from Louisville
After his recall Mesoraco had a total of three at-bats in September,
    appearing in games September 9-10.
At the time of his recall, Dusty Baker was asked about Mesoraco making
the playoff roster, “We’re hoping so. We’re hoping that’s what the
final outcome is. It depends on him. It depends on the progress he
makes. We really want to stress it had nothing to do with his
suspension." Due to the concussion and suspension Mesoraco had just 22 AB's in
August. If the Reds thought Mesoraco had work to do, why not send him
down earlier in the season to get regular playing time? His lack of
playing time didn't sneak up on them. Dioner Navarro's play certainly
made it easier to put Mesoraco on the back burner in September.
Navarro hit well (.290-2-12 in 24 games) and the pitchers were
    comfortable with him (12-4 2.48). He was a veteran, a switch-hitter
and had postseason experience. Navarro signed with the Cubs in the
offseason. The Reds signed veteran catcher Miguel Olivo two weeks ago.
Mesoraco is still only 24. I find it hard to believe the organization
has given up on him. The question is, what is best for him and the
Reds in 2013? Is it Mesoraco playing everyday at AAA and Olivo being
the backup to Ryan Hanigan. Or, should Mesoraco continue to learn and
develop, playing a couple of times a week for the Reds?

It's sink or swim time for Mesoraco IMO. You HAVE to find some way to get him ab's and innings in the majors. He has nothing else to really learn than to actually go out there and do it. Don't get me wrong I LOVE Hanigan but Hanigan is 32 and could fall quickly with his skill set. I hope Mesoraco is more mature and takes criticism a little better and learns from Hanigan but we shall see.

Miguel Cairo has accepted a job in the Reds front office.

At least he won't be Pirate-killing anymore.

    One game in the books!

FIRE DUSTY, being spread through the city!

Bottom of the eighth, runners on first and second, no one out....game tied 1-1... Brandon Phillips up, Votto next....

Dusty BUNTS Brandon... Which makes it easy to WALK votto... then Heisey Ks and Bruce Ks....

Why not let Phillips and Votto bat there? You took the bat out of your two BEST players....

    Also:

Reds outfielder Ryan Ludwick tore cartilage in his right shoulder while sliding into third base during the season opener and will need surgery, leaving the defending NL Central champions without one of their main run producers for an uncertain period. The team didn't project how long Ludwick would be out.

Reports of 3+ Months out.... HURTS

Part of me feels we need to make a move. Get a RH bat to replace Ludwick

If you chase a bat at this point you're paying a premium to get them cause essentially everyone is thinking their still in it....

But I understand... at this point I think anyone is a better canidate than what we have... has anyone heard from Mica Owings lately?

My question is in either case why the blue hell is ANYONE going to pitch to Votto regardless (unless bases loaded)? If I'm an opposing manager I don't care first and second 1 out, runner on 3rd 2 out, second and third one out I'm not pitching to Votto. I personally would have preferred to see Phillips swinging because Heisey was behind Votto but if either Heisey or Bruce get a hit the point is moot.

It's annoying but it shouldn't bring this sort of firey calls... yet .

I believe that they would take their chances with Votto if someones on first, there's a chance he would GIDP and end the inning. But, irregardless, Dusty took the bat out of Phillips hands and then subsequently Vottos.

Reds outscore Washington 27-10 in the 3 game series...

    Even more impressive:

The reds were retired in order just twice in the entire series!
