Reds Hanigan gets 3 year deal

Reds signed C Ryan Hanigan to a three-year, $4 million contract extension.
The deal will cover Hanigan's first two seasons of arbitration eligibility in 2012 and 2013. It also includes $800,000 worth of performance-based incentives. The 30-year-old catcher is expected to share time behind the plate this year with Ramon Hernandez.
Hanigan wasn't likely to break the bank in arbitration but the Reds did save a few bucks here. I expect Hanigan to get the majority playing time behind the plate this year and for the rest of his contract. Didn't realize he was already 30 but he should be fine over the course of his contract.

Hanigan is unlikely to be the primary catcher in 2012 with Mesoraco moving up rapidly, but either way, he is a very good catcher who pitchers love to work with and can hold his own for sure at the plate. Solid deal.
