    Reds Arroyo Gets Extension

Reds signed RHP Bronson Arroyo to a three-year, $35 million contract extension.
Just in time for Reds Fest, which is taking place this weekend in Cincinnati. Arroyo, 33, finished the 2010 season with a 17-10 record, a 3.88 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP over 33 starts. He's found a comfort zone in the light-hitting National League Central and should continue to flourish over the length of the contract.
Its pretty sad when a guy as unproven as Jorge de la Rosa gets a deal close to a proven guy like Arroyo. Seems like a fair deal and the length is good too. Its also sad that their closer makes more than him

    Re: Arroyo Gets Extension

Arroyo has been here for 5 seasons. He has thrown more than 200 innings in all five seasons, making him one of the true workhorse arms in the league. But last year was perhaps his best outside of his first season with the Reds in 2006. His K/9 has dipped but last season his BAA and total hits allowed also dropped, much of which you can contribute to an improved core of position players. He also was much more consistent than he had been (in an article here I showed his past tendency to be a 2nd-half warrior), outside of a shaky April to kick the season off with, he was good for a dependable QS as any great pitcher would be. I'm glad we're keeping him around, his pitching style is a welcome change from our other starters, coupled with his veteran experience, and he should factor nicely in to strategic playoff pitching schedules.

I see you left a little room for Arroyo's much valued "veteran experience" to go with all those stats.

    J/K, I myself don't completely discount intangibles.

I love his stats, namely for his durability. He isn't a sexy stat pitcher, but he has been a very dependable starter for years and is one of the league's most consistent middle of the rotation pitchers. The intangibles don't hurt either.

And think many people wanted to run him out of town when he first got here cause he wasnt Wily Mo. I question a bit on the length especially given our depth but Arroyo might shock us again and become sort of our Jamie Moyer.
