Reds Reds Trade Dickerson For Edmonds

Reds acquired OF Jim Edmonds from the Brewers for OF Chris Dickerson.
Interesting timing by Reds manager Walt Jocketty, whose club opens an important three-game series on Monday night against Edmonds' former team, the second-place Cardinals. Edmonds, 40, has posted a respectable .843 OPS, eight home runs and 20 RBI in 217 at-bats this season. The Reds have a crowded outfield and playing time will be limited, but he's a nice bat to have off the bench.
I am liking this pickup for the Reds but a little surprised the Cards didn't jump on this. Jocketty reunites Edmonds with Rolen and provides a veteran presence in the OF. He has done quite well off the bench this year and in case one of the youngsters start to slump a tad, Edmonds is there to fill in.

Edmonds is touring the NL Central.

Now he just needs to go to Houston and Pittsburgh.

Travis Wood gets demoted to make room for Edmonds. There had better be a corresponding "phantom DL" trip for Leake after tonight because Wood has been one of our best pitchers this year.

This move blows. Jim Edmonds is washed up. What's next, go lure Junior out of retirement?

Whatever you have to. It makes as much sense as going out and trading one of your better players for an over-the-hill OFer.

We're talking about Travis Wood, right? I would not imagine Chris Dickerson is of much value to you guys.

I don't know. Dickerson isn't exactly a young prospect and wasn't being looked at to really have a future with the club. Edmonds has been tearing it up since the ASG and is a good bat off the bench. I like it. Just wonder how he slipped through to the Reds. I know the Giants could have used him considering he can 1B as well

Chris Dickerson is a better CF than Drew Stubbs right now.

Re: Reds Trade Dickerson For Edmonds

Dickerson does have a good deal of value. He is a good clubhouse presence, has the ability to post a strong OBP, brings plus speed, and a great glove. It honestly seems like we were paying a bit too much, but perhaps Jocketty wanted this veteran bat but also wanted to be fair to Dickerson who has torn up AAA by giving him a chance for real playing time elsewhere. Given the context of the move, I get it and I think its pretty solid, assuming Edmonds stays healthy. I won't claim to know Edmonds game at this stage of his career, but I have to think bringing him together with Rolen will add a new dynamic to the clubhouse.

Dickerson wasnt in the franchise future plans so they went all out. Dickerson was unlikely to provide much pop the rest of the year because of his current injury. He also borderline Austin Kearns in the injury factor the guy is made of glass... And I LIKE Dickerson. I hate he's going to a division rival if he "puts it together" he may replace Bill Hall as my #1 most hated cheese head. But my gripe isnt with Dickerson being traded for Edmonds its the fact this front office hasnt addressed the biggest problem we have and thats in the rotation.

We demote the 1 young guy who hasnt hit a wall yet or isnt coming back from Tommy John Surgery. I would look at it a bit differently if tomorrow Leake goes on the DL so Wood comes up and doesnt miss a start. Every game is important when you are in the race and demoting your best starter screams of the front office not wanting to have to make an actual decision.

I can't seriously imagine Wood is down there to stay. I refuse to accept that.

    Prove me right front office.

Apparently he'll have a start in AAA, and if that goes well, he comes back up... if that goes well. Nice little slap in the face. Don't they have enough outfielders? Couldn't they afford to demote one of them instead?

From all the reports I have read, Wood is only going to miss one start which isn't that bad of an idea. Relax.
