Should the Reds retire Ken Griffey, Jr.'s #30

I know he switched to #3 his last couple years in Cincinnati, but should they retire the number? Thoughts.

Maybe in honor of being one of the players to spend the most time on the DL?

It's one of those things that are like if they do great, if not oh well. I kind of wish Griffey had said last year was it and gone on his "farewell tour".

I would say no. His impact and legacy was his years with Seattle.

I understand that, but he did hit home runs # 400, 500, and 600 in a Reds uniform...

He was THE icon of baseball with Seattle, he was on the decline in Cincinnati.

Ricky Henderson broke the runs record in San Diego. I don't see them retiring his number anytime soon.

I say there's nothing wrong with retiring his number if they feel he graced Reds baseball history. We're not debating about his Baseball Hall of Fame plaque.

His dad was part of the Big Red Machine era, he was in the Reds biggest trade ever, and he hit several milestones with the Reds including winning Comeback Player of The Year.

He's a Mariner in the HoF, no question. I don't see why his two (main) teams can't both honor him. It's not essential that the Reds do it like the Mariners, but I think it would be a nice gesture.

I say yes. He made an impact in Cincinnati. And as has been said, it's not the hall of fame discussion. So why not. The (Devil) Rays have retired Wade Boggs' number after all.

They have nothing else to retire.
