Reds Reds to name Joe Morgan a Special Advisor

The real question is whether or not he stays on board with ESPN. Would the Reds or the MLB want someone with close ties with a GM working in the booth too?

Or is this just a move to show that the Reds are no longer shunning former stars of glory days most of us weren't even alive to enjoy?
CINCINNATI -- The Reds have called a news conference for Wednesday afternoon to announce that Hall of Famer Joe Morgan has joined the club as a special advisor to baseball operations.

Morgan, 67, and general manager Walt Jocketty will speak to reporters at 4:30 p.m. ET. at Great American Ball Park.

Your special advisor doesn't take into consideration the sabermetrics. I expect Willy Taveras to make a triumphant return down the road, haha.

Which is funny, cause if Morgan was a player in this age, he'd be a sabermetrician's love child with the OBP, OPS, and UZR

    Per Hal:
“Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Tony Perez, George Foster, Dave Concepcion - I had some of the best times of my life here,” he said. “I’ve never really left Cincinnati. Just physically. But I’ve always been a Reds fan.”
Welcome back Joe! Apparently he will not leave his broadcasting role as he will not be involved in the day to day operations. If used right, Joe could bring a lot to this team, especially with one on one sessions with players.

That's not exactly true. Sir Joe Morgan highly values Gamer% and KHTW+

Soon, Bill Simmons will be including "Ecksteins" in his baseball statistical vocabulary in the same way he coined "Russells" to define blocked shots to a teammate in the NBA.
