Reds Volquez throwing off the mound again

Good news. Hopefully the rotation is strong enough that no side, player or team, tries to rush him back. Let him take his time and comeback to be a big strikeout arm in September from the pen.
Edinson Volquez has begun throwing off the mound — an important step in his rehab from Aug. 3 “Tommy John” surgery.

“It was good,” he said. “No pain. I’m happy with everything so far.”
Volquez threw 30 pitches at about 50 percent. He’ll continue mound sessions every other day, gradually increasing the pitch count.

...Volquez is optimistic he can return by mid-July.

Usually a pitcher post surgery never makes his return upon initial report. I see Volquez returning aropund September if at all. Prior to signing Chapman, I thought this team was headed nowhere this season as soon as we heard about Volquez's surgery. But Chapman, if handled correctly, could be a sufficient number 5 soon and this rotation looks pretty solid. I think there are a lot of if with every arm, but hopefully some of them work out consistently.

If Harang can get back to his old self
If Arroyo can be a 1st half pitcher as well as he does in the 2nd half
If Bailey is truly coming into his own
If Cueto has yet to reach his ceiling
If Chapman/Leake/Wood/Maloney can get us 10 wins in the 5th spot

All those "If's" look comforting. Ha.
