A's get IF Rosales, too. Rosales will be a utility IF for the A's. Taveras won't be starting unless it's in AAA.

There's nothing to assume. Taveras apparently won't be on the A's long (one way or another).

I'm told the A's are expected to hang onto Taveres for long, he's not in their plans.
That's the A's are NOT expected to hang onto Tavares for long.
    And in fact:

A's designated Tavares and Dana Eveland for assignment
She's the A's writer at the SF Chronicle.

Money isn't much of an issue really. The Cubs sent us $1 mil for Miles, which we did not send to the Reds. We sent Miles to the Reds and he's owed $2.7 mil. Taveres is owed $4 mil. A's lose $300k overall ($4 mil - $1 mil - $2.7 mil).

So it sounds like we got rid of Tavares, lost Rosales and got an equal Miles in return. But on top of that, if I am correct, we save $1.3 million on this deal! This covers more than half of Cabrera's contract.

    Well done Jocketty!

This is truly one of those moves that the return seriously does not matter. This is addition by subtraction. The Reds won't have to entertain Baker's dream of Tavares batting leadoff nor do they need to stage a sham of a competition between him and Stubbs.

    Thank you baseball gods.

Tavares is out. We need a new whipping boy...

    2002 Reggie Taylor
    2003 Reggie Taylor
    2004 Juan Castro
    2005 Rich Aurilia/Eric Milton
    2006 Tony Womack/Royce Clayton
    2007 Juan Castro
    2008 Corey Patterson
    2009 Willy Tavares

We need a new whipping boy!

I agree with you though mission, this is huge addition by subtraction. And we saved some money. Best of luck to Rosales, I hope he bodes well for Oakland. Dude will hustle for you...
