Reds Who was our last true leadoff hitter?

Seriously, I beg to find the answer to this question. It has been a long time. Many have failed in the role. Management maintains it as a need every offseason. When will it finally be fixed?

Names to ponder in our longhaul of mistakes: (no particular order)
    Jiminez
    Patterson
    Tavares
    Romano
    Dunn (haha Bob Boone)
Freel (my opinion says he is the best on this list)
    Hopper
    Dickerson
    Deion Sanders
    Reese

Perhaps Mike Cameron? Barry Larkin from time to time? So many tries and so many failures. It's been so long.

I say Ryan Freel was our last true leadoff hitter in 04-06 he just couldnt stay healthy enough to do it 150 games in a year. The rest of that list is just dreadful minus Dickerson who still has a shot to prove he belongs.

I'd agree on Freel. When Freel was at his peak, it was only his health from really keeping him from being an elite leadoff man. It would have made Dusty sick to see him, with drawing out the AB, seeing pitches, taking walks. Toothpick up Freel!

    Pierre was never a Red.

Anyhow, I agree with the Freel call. His injury woes were a problem, plus the constant thought of his not being an everyday player. But I have to admit, I truly miss the guy.

So, you guys think Tavares is the name called upon next season as well?

I don't know, this season was dreadful. And in a just world they would allow it to be a true competition between him and Dickerson, where the best player wins. However his salary jumps from about 2.5 million to 4 million next season and I just can't see us playing a 4 million player on the bench.
