Bailey Fans 15!

Homer Bailey fanned 15 of the 26 batters he faced while allowing two runs in 6 1/3 innings for Triple-A Louisville on Sunday.
118 pitches is a lot to be throwing in a minor league game, but Bailey is a week away from turning 23 and he could probably use the confidence boost that comes with having the high strikeout game in professional baseball to date during 2009. He picked up the win, so he's now 2-2 with a 6.20 ERA for Louisville.

Bailey's ERA might not be impressive but striking out 15 is. His ERA is a little high because of a disastrous first appearance. Looks like he is on the right track now.

Even at AAA, that's a good amount of Ks. How's his control?

And a lot of people, myself included, believe that his rocky start to the season was him having a pity party for himself after pitching very well in spring training but losing out since he had a minor league option left and other players did not.

As for control, at least through the spring Gen it was much improved. Most scouting reports on him said he was hitting his spots and improved his secondary pitches so it did seem like a developmental step forward for Homer.

The kid has great stuff. Now its time to get his head straightened out. When he learns to think like a pitcher (as Bert Blyleven says), he'll be ready to come up and have an impact in the bigs. He seems to get down when he throws a decent pitch and the hitter hits it.
I hope he continues working on his secondary pitches. No one can get by as a starter with just a fastball, no matter how fast it is.
