Reds Series Notes: Reds vs Brewers

Game one tonight: Gallardo vs Volquez

Volquez is going to have to be on top of things tonight against Gallardo for us to be in this game.

The Bottom of this lineup is going to have to start producing, Agon and Hernandez are a combined 1 for 27.

If I didn't know better I'd say Bruce set him up for that one. He looked silly on the fastball right before. Nice to see him getting on track though, he needs that confidence.

Edwin Tomatoes with a grand slam. More runs than most probably figured with Gallardo and Volquez on the hill.

Definitely, I was not expecting this to be a high score affair on both sides of the coin. Nice to see this Reds team can score a few runs though.

Steve Phillips thinks you guys are legit if you can score runs. Not that anyone cares what Stevie P thinks, but hey!

Wow the bullpen was awesome tonight. Weathers dishing out heart attacks, of course. Hopefully this can be a nice wake up call for Volquez, he seems way to laid back out there, he needs to buckle down.

Volquez really needs to stop looking for punchouts. His stuff is filthy when he has his control, the strikeouts will come. He goes out there and gets ahead but then tries on 0-2, 1-2, 2-2, etc to get that third strike way too much, to the point of it being at an obvious detriment.

And yeah, scary moments aside, the pen was sweet tonight. I can definitely see the value of having four strong guys like that if we do make any waves for the Wild Card/Division.

Weathers and Herrera pitch a pretty darn nice 8th inning. Reds are leading 3-1 still after getting some runs early.

Laynce Nix with a double and his first RBI as a Red. It would be so great if he can figure out MLB hitting similar to how Guillen and Hamilton did while in Cincinnati.

It was Nix's first RBI since 2006 in the bigs.

Chris just dropped a reference to "Escape From New York" saying a player was happier than Snake Plissken to get out of New York. That is great.

That is exactly what I was thinking as soon as the reds signed him. I don't think he has quite the talent of those two, but could put up numbers pretty similar to Guillen, best case scenario.

I didn't get to see the game tonight, but it looks like a good performance all around. Nice to hear that Arroyo and Herrera pitched well. Going for the sweep tomorrow, hopefully Owings can carry over his spring success.

Yeah, he is no Hamilton for sure, but it would be great if he can finally show off some of that talent. I know that injury really derailed him so hopefully the timing is right and GAB will give him a boost too.

Owings on the mound tonight, going for the sweep of the Brew Crew. Maybe Micah can do some work with the bat too.
