Roster Freel to DL; Patterson called up

Freel apparently pulled his hamstring last night. The day Patterson starts over Bruce is the day we know without a doubt that Dusty Baker is not doing what he should be.

I think this move hurts the team big time. But Patterson would still be ok if he is used solely as a defensive replacement.

Re: Freel to DL; Patterson called up

Anyone wanna play Over/Under on when the first game Patterson starts and whether he'll be batting 1st, 2nd, or elsewhere?

My guess Tomorrow: "Cole Hammels is a tough lefty we don't want Jay to be overwhelmed with too much. He's been playing a lot of baseball this year and we wanted to get Corey some at bats."

    Lineup:
    Patterson CF
    Hairston RF
    Phillips 2b
    Dunn LF
    EE 3b
    Votto 1b
    Ross C
    Janish SS

As much as I like Bruce, I dont want them to wear him out already, so i dont think its a bad decision.

Re: Freel to DL; Patterson called up

Anytime you sit Bruce so that Patterson can get at bats is a bad thing when Dusty Baker makes the lineups. BTW:

    Hairston SS
    Patterson CF
    Bruce RF
    Philips 2B
    Dunn LF
    Votto 1B
    Encarnacion 3B
    Bako C
    Volquez P

What's the point in having Paul Janish on this team at this point? He's young and at least hit a little unlike Corey "Mr Automatic Out" Patterson who everyone and their brother knows sucks been in AAA what a week and first night back gets put in the starting lineup. I really really really try to give Baker the benefit of the doubt but his game management and lineups make it almost impossible for me to not throw stuff at my tv/radio at this point.

Baseball 101: The point of hitting is to not make outs.

What has Corey done? Made a crap ton of outs but he's fast so he's gotta bat leadoff or 2nd. Its freaking MORONIC!!

1-2-3 first inning! This team is going to be fun to watch tonight. I think Griffey will get a lot of days off between now and Father's Day. They are waiting for him to hit 600 then.

2 hits for us tonight. I didn't get to see it, but it must have been a pitching duel or like Banter said, some crazy web gems are waiting me on Sportscenter tonight.

Note to Dusty: when he takes Griffey out of the lineup, this team has refused to hit the ball. I don't know what it is right now. But with Bruce out of the second spot in the order, this team has stunk with the sticks. That cannot be all attributed to Patterson's suckness either. But they have to keep Bruce in the 2-hole and Hairston at leadoff. Lets get this offense going again.

Yeah, that GM who called Patteson back up hasn't proven anything over his career.

But anyway, nice game/win tonight. Volquez was stellar again. Not much offense on the road though...again. Bruce needs to take that next step offensively if he wants to be like Sir Albert.

Hopefully Homer doesn't get roughed up against Hamels too much.

By the way, I STRONGLY disagree that Dusty's game management has been poor. I think he's made his share of bad moves, like every manager, but I think he is much better than most in that area.

And him hitting Patterson high in the order doesn't change that for me.

Bart: Thanks, Dad. But part of this D-minus belongs to God.

Re: Freel to DL; Patterson called up

Duhsty Baker will never have a winning season with the Reds unless they start getting into the top 5 of payroll. Dusty made a legacy on the underacheiving with great teams in SF. There is a reason why the year after he left they went on to win 100 games when Pythag wins was 91. And that is that they had a better manager in Felipe Alou.

There is a reason why Dusty Baker with Prior, Wood, Zambrano, and a decent/good Clement never won 90 games and only won a division title cause the entire division was average... He continual shot himself in the foot with poor decisions and he didnt have Barry Bonds to make him look good (no offense to Derrick Lee but Bonds was/is in another hemisphere).

I have to disagree, with all the young talent on the Reds Dusty will have a winning season. But thats not what I want to talk about. I think Edison Volquez is going to really be a good pitcher in the upcoming years. The way he mixes the fastball and the change up.... NASTY!

But we've seen almost the identical situation staring Duhsty already. If the young guys meet potential then I would compare Bailey, Volquez, Cueto, and Thompson to the pitching he had in Chicago and we only have part of a pen. Unfortunately we don't have Derrick Lee in the middle of the lineup. And we do have Corey "get out of the way early" Patterson killing oppertunities just like always with 0 signs of Dusty learning ANYTHING. If Dusty was showing ANY signs of adjusting or learning about this team I might be more hopeful but he is continueing to make the same mistakes over and over and over again.

i understand the move to bring Patterson up, what can you do.. and while i don't agree with starting him... if you have to.. why does he have to hit at the top of the order.. you don't want a guy who isn't hitting to get More AB's.. you want him to get less.. the only reason the Reds got the W last night is the Brothers V.. Volquez and Votto
