honestly... the smart move IMO is to have Harriston leading off when he starts.. and Freel leading off when he starts.. that way Bruce doesn't have to leadoff.. i really hope that someone has told Baker that he is not to let Bruce Rot on the bench

HAHAHAHA man you Reds fans still haven't figured out Dusty. Though if your GM has some balls, Bruce will get to play.

Well, it either means that Patterson is gone, or it means Junior is gone. Doubt its Junior, but you never know.

Votto played whem Hatteberg struggled, it only took a few games.
Janish played right away, sharing time with Hairston.

I don't see why super prospect Jay Bruce would be sitting on the bench frequently. Frankly and no offense, Chicago did not have a Jay Bruce type of position player during Dusty's time so I believe the circumstances were different, I think Dusty knows that after Bruce's minor league stats and success, his job is to play him and see if he is ready.

as been said, Junior has already said he would use his No Trade clause no matter who they try to trade him too.. so it won't be Junior

if they can move Patterson it will be to a team that will just pay some of his contract.. i don't see any team giving up anything for him.. let alone wanting to take on his full contract.

I see it going down like this.

#1 someone is stupid enough to take Patterson
#2 someone is mysteriously put on the DL
    #3 Javier Valentin is cut.

I think Javey gets cut before Patterson because they would have to eat less money to send Javey down.. beside Valentin is useless with Bruce on the team.. the reds have 2 Catchers already and 2 first basemen already.. Both Bruce and Patterson are left handed so there will be one more LH batter on the bench.. Valentin struggles batting RH.. so really that leaves little room for JV..

I still wouldn't put it past Baker to put Patterson in the lineup. I mean, it is his M.O.

yeah i wouldn't be suprised if Patterson and Bruce are both in tonights lineup.. and he sits either Jr or Dunn.. UGH.

the only way to stop the madness of Baker putting Patterson in the lineup at CF is that he is moved one way or another

    Well, here's your options:

    Trade/release Patterson
    Trade/release Hatteberg
    Trade/release Valentin
    Trade Junior or Dunn

Of these moves, I see the second or third one as being the ones that are most probable, not dumping Patterson.

    Re: Jay Bruce called up!

I think Hatteberg may be on the chopping block fellas. I hate to say it, but he just isn't playing well in his role. I love Hatteberg and am likely his biggest supporter on this site, but to me, he is the odd man out. He doesn't bring defensive help, he doesn't bring speed on the basepaths, and flat out is not a pinch hitter. The good thing is, he is cheap. So he should be easy to trade. But the word is, nobody wants him.

As far as the lineup with Bruce goes, I am at a loss because I want to start Janish. In which case, we don't have a leadoff guy.

    Janish SS
    Dunn LF
    Phillips 2B
    Votto 1B
    EdE 3B
    Griffey RF
    Bruce CF
    Bako C

Nasty, but what can you do?

yeah i think if Bruce is starting Harriston has to start and play SS.. with Janish coming in late as a Defensive replacement.

I guess the question is who would cost less money to cut.. Valentin or Hatteberg

They now need to insert him into the lineup and leave him in there.
