Lohse traded to Phillies for Matt Maloney

Just read on C Trent's blog that Rosenthal is saying Lohse is being traded to the Phillies. Just a rumor for now but I may have been right on one for once.

    Re: Lohse rumor

    Official according to SI:

The Phillies bolstered their rotation by acquiring right-hander Kyle Lohse from the Reds for a minor-league pitcher, sources have told SI.com.
Lohse, 6-12 with a 4.58 ERA, was considered one of the better starting pitchers available in a very weak starting-pitching market.

Re: Lohse traded to Phillies for pitching prospect

Matt Maloney is our take. He is in the Phillies top 10 prospect list so I'll take it. I guess the book on him is that he is a soft-tossing left handed starting pitcher.

Maloney is a poor return for Lohse, especially in this market.

Krivsky better pull something out of his as* in the next day or I'm officially leaving his bandwagon. We got hosed here.

I don't think we did really. Maloney has a good K:BB ratio, good ERA, and good WHIP. I see nothing to really dislike. He isn't a hard thrower or anything, but I can't hate the return still.

I mean we all knew Lohse wasn't going to get us much. Just to get something for him is nice. Here are his stats:

I wonder who will be taking Lohse spot in the rotation. Dumatrait, Bailey?

    C Trent:

CINCINNATI - Cincinnati Reds executive vice president and general manager Wayne Krivsky today announced the acquisition of LHP Matt Maloney from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for RHP Kyle Lohse.

Krivsky will be available to the media in the GABP administration building lobby at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Maloney, 23, this season at Philadelphia's Class AA Reading affiliate went 9-7 with a 3.94 ERA and 1 complete game in 21 starts. He allowed just 117 hits while striking out 115 batters in 125.2 innings. He leads the Eastern League in innings pitched and ranks fourth in strikeouts.

The Phillies' third-round draft pick in 2005, Maloney entered this season rated by Baseball America as the ninth-best prospect in the Phillies' organization. In 2006, in just his second professional season, he was named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Year after going 16-9 with a 2.03 ERA and 180 strikeouts in 27 starts and 168.2 innings pitched for Lakewood. He led the SAL in victories, innings pitched and strikeouts.

Maloney will report to Class AA Chattanooga.

Lohse, 28, this season went 6-12 with a 4.58 ERA in 21 starts. In his 21 appearances, the Reds went 8-13.
Looks like good numbers there. Just may become a good pitcher for the Reds one day. Perhaps the next Eric Milton, or perhaps a good solid lefty to help round out the rotation in a few years.

    Good trade.

I'd say against the Nationals, Livingston/Arroyo/Phil Dumatrait

Sounds like the guy maybe more of a "pitcher" than a thrower. In which case Ill take it for Jeckyll and Hyde.

question is this, will this prospect turn to be a loser

Lohse had some potential, he had some pretty damn good games as well even with the bad ones well since Matt looks pretty good I'm not pissed at this at all

chances are with our history, he will be a bust.. but Lohse has never put it together and will likely never be consistant enough
