It's an interesting pitcher choice and maybe a bit of a statement from the Reds front office as Lohse has had at times dazzling stuff but seemed to fail to capitalize on it where as Maloney seems to lack the big heat and such but fully utilizes it (to the tune of a healthy K/9.) I would rather have back Ward, but I can live with this as Maloney comes in and takes a spot in our top ten pitching prospects.

Yep Ward was enticing for sure. His numbers actually look comparable to Maloney's this season. I wonder if Maloney was only in AA to help his numbers and be showcased a bit. In other words, it may behoove Krivsky to try him out at Louisville after a few starts in Chatannooga.

Any chance we see Matt Maloney this year?

Its possible if an injury strikes. But to be honest, given the Reds depth with starters, I think its more likely that Maloney would be included in a trade later this season since he is at the lower end of what the Reds have.
