The intellectual level of the discourse on Extra Innings during the week has increased categorically since Daugherty took over the show.

Tracy Jones provides the entertainment on weekends but Daugherty does a great job during the week.

Furman can stay on 96.5 and can be worth a listen but not on a nightly basis.

Daugherty has seriously bumped up a notch or two on my liking him scale. He still aggravates me sometimes, but he does get key interviews in and he does ask the right questions vs the typical garbage we hear elsewhere.

He doesn't let as many total idiots call in, if you noticed.

The show is more serious overall (expect when he injects some of his subtle and other times not-so-subtle humor) and gets down to business.

He raises good discussion points and talks about important baseball issues, even if I don't agree with him on his particular stance on that issue.

He has been ranked the No. 2 sports columnist in the country (at least one time) for a reason.

My opinion of Mackanin has taken another hit tonight.

He started Valentin with Belisle again.

Now he pulls Dunn for Hopper with the Reds down two in the 7th.

The chances of something getting hit to Hopper that Dunn couldn't catch aren't good enough to take his bat out of the lineup in this type of game. Three hitters get on over the next two innings and Dunn's spot will be up.

Ugh.
