Reds Game Thread (kind of) 6/27/2007

Instead of doing a game thread tonight, and in spite of the current drought in game threads here, I have decided to do something a bit different.

Lets talk about the game here tonight, but also discuss the future of this team. Last year we all layed out our nice little plans for this team's future. That was before Phillips, Arroyo, and Ross arrived. This year we have more to look forward to with Hamilton and Bailey. The current roster has talent, so lets look at these guys throughout the game today and see if they are helping their own cause.

Whether that be to buy some looks from other GMs for free agncy. Or if it is an arbitration case where a player wants to help themselves with their numbers. Then lets point out players who are trying to win.

We can have a game thread, but lets look at things and determine where Krivsky's head should be at.

Hamilton is in to lead it off and I truly think he is a part of the future for this team. I want to see him really define himself the second half of this season.

Phillips, here is another guy who I think Krivsky has to keep around. Maybe drop him in the order a bit. But thats calling for better field management. This is a very solid 2B and one we should lock up for a long time. True 30-30 talent.

    Here is the 3-1 pitch...

BP Ks swinging on a changeup now. Moyer using that slow stuff well.

Girffey, do we trade him or do we keep him? He was quoted saying he wants to retire in Seattle, but we and the media read too much into it.

As he grounds out to SS for the 1-2-3 inning for Moyer, lets think about whether we should trade him and free up money for free agency this off season and perhaps get some good prospects in exchange for a power left handed bat with good OBP numbers from a contender.

Harang is on the hill tonight bidding for an All-Star invite. He should be a lock already if you ask me. Perhaps the most underrated pitcher in a long time.

He is locked up for the future and Krivsky is likely to have him on the untouchable list. If anyone stays with the Reds, its this guy.

Bourn grounds out back to Harang. 1-2

    Lets mirror Moyer's inning.

Utley goes down with the K.

1-2-3 for Harang. Good start to the All-Star bid.

Conine, definite trade bait IMO. Not sure many contenders would want him though. And we know he will not be going to a non contender as he should not be in anyone's future plans age wise.

He grounds out to SS. 1 away.

Dunn, the big question remains with the big guy. The trade rumors are circling every day. Do we keep him for the future as he is still at a very good age? Or do we trade him for the same reasons mentioned under Griffey's name?

With Hamilton likely sticking and the upcoming of Jay Brice who will likely be up by mid next season, can we afford to lose Dunn. These two guys cannot be looked at as a guarantee in production at the Dunn level. We would be lucky to have it. But getting some money cleared out for FA and possibly getting some prospects in a trade, how do you not bite?

Dunn Ks on a changeup. 2 outs

EdE, I say we keep him for the future. He is not a bust as some would say. He is still very young and raw. He has a very good bat and uses it well in the clutch. Being young, he has things to work on. Imagine when he hones that talent. I say they keep him at 3B and line him up for the future.

Gonzo pops out to the catcher.

He is signed for another two years after this season. His defense is nowhere near what we expected. Although he does show signs of good range and very quick hands, is he the defender Krivsky was looking for? Is his bat a pleasant surprise for what we expected?

    Keep Gonzo or trade him?
