If Jocketty Left St. Louis, Reds Could Be Interested (Rosenthal)

Given R Cast's ties to the franchise in the past and citing essentially how he wanted to model quite a bit after them, this isn't surprising. Of course this is just idle chatter, but it is interesting nonetheless.

In any case, several clubs — including the Giants, Cubs, Mariners, Astros, Reds and Pirates — could change general managers at the end of the season. The Cardinals also could lose G.M. Walt Jocketty, who is under contract through 2008 but shadowed by Jeff Luhnow, the team's vice-president of scouting and player development.

Jocketty, who spent 14 seasons with the A's, would be a natural for the Giants, assuming the Cardinals allowed him to depart. He also could be a fit for the Reds, whose owner, Bob Castellini, previously was an investor with the Cardinals.

While I have never cared much for the Cardinals, I have always admired Jocketty's ability to get things accomplished. In the past he has made deals for several big names to keep the Cards competitive: McGwire, Edmonds, Larry Walker, Mulder, Rolen etc. and even lesser deals for guys like Ray King, Preston Wilson, etc. Also, shrewd moves for guys like Ohka and Maroth to keep his guys in it. Solid is the best word I can think of.

If the Reds could steal Jocketty away, he would be the best GM they've had in a long time...

I don't know if I'd label the acquisitions of Maroth and Ohka as "solid"

    I'd more call it reaching.

But he's doing something, so that's not meant as a knock.

"Solid" was a reference to Jocketty not the dynamic duo of Ohka and Maroth.

I was thinking the same thing. Ha.
I wouldn't balme him for being excited of over the thought though. Jocketty is amazing as spelled out by NFL above. He called him solid, but I say he is amazing. CRF will do a lot better at describing this amazement than I can though.

It took this long into the thread for a CRF mention? I'm disappointed at you all...
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Heck he got Jeff Weaver and turned him into an all star in the world series.

Actually he got Weaver and Dave Duncan (who is the amazing one) with a little help from LaRussa made him an All-Star in the W/S.

When and how the Reds add to their five World Championships, nine pennants and nine division titles seems less important than the franchises' lineage, which traces a line back to the dawn of the professional game and their role as keeper of the historic flame they lit by birthing the Red Stockings in 1869.
