Narron to be a manager elsewhere?
Report links Reds' Narron to vacancy in Kansas City
NEW YORK - A report by ESPN's Peter Gammons over the weekend suggested Reds bench coach Jerry Narron might be a candidate for the Kansas City Royals' managerial opening.
The Royals are thought to prefer someone with big-league experience to lead their young team in the wake of Tony Pena's resignation, and Narron fits that bill. He managed the Texas Rangers for most of 2001 and all of 2002, compiling a 134-162 record.
There has been no definitive word out of Kansas City about whether the Royals will hire a permanent replacement during the season or wait until the fall. Narron said he has had no contact with the Royals, who are being managed on an interim basis by Bob Schaefer, but he hopes to get another shot at running a team somewhere, someday.
"I definitely would like to manage again," said Narron. "I don't know anybody over there (in Kansas City), but we'll see what happens with it."
