yet again another stupid move by Wayne. Shafer in my mind could have been used.

another note today. Mark Bellhorn signed to a MLC. could be interesting yet again to see where all these INF's are going to play but Bellhorn should be pretty good at GABP i hope he can be the back up to Phillips or something.

Saarloos is a ground ball pitcher...obviously more so when he is on. He pitched one of the games I went to at Yankee Stadium last year and IIRC 9 of the first 11 batters grounded out...he should do OK over there.

GABP needs groundball pitchers and this has to be Krivsky's motivation to take on Saarlos. His contract is real cheap and it won't hurt to take on the risk. I liek the trade, but am not expecting too much to come out of it.

Shafer dominated his class last year and I believe he may not have been nearly as good at the MLB level. I call this taking a chance on a grounball pitcher without losing too much. Nice move.

I am pretty thrilled with the pickup of Saarloos, it's true that his peripherals are similar to what I could put up if a big league team ever gave me a shot, but his groundball tendencies are obviously intriguing. His G/F declined from 2005 to 2006 (2.34 to 2.00) and his homerun rate, WHIP, and opponents batting average all went up. So either he lost his touch for something and Beane knew to strike before his value dipped anymore, or he just didn't feel like with his decline peripherals that he could justify the salary he got in arbitration. Either way, this does add some merit to what Krivsky has done to strengthen the middle infield's defense, so maybe we'll get lucky with a 4.2 or 4.3 ERA this season from Kirk. It is nice for once to be adding someone who isn't closer to 40 than 30.

Also many people thought the last time we traded with the A's Harang was minor piece many thought . LoL.

Im luke warm on him, maybe he can surprise us and unseat Milton/Lohse in the rotation.
