Manos de Oro: The Man of the Golden Contract

I dig Castro for what he is and I like the presence he brings to the team even if statistically he isn't all that hot (he does possess the gift of clutch though from time to time, often when we really need it). Hell I used to loathe him, and I think getting to like his effort has made me overlook his glaring statistical problems. But like RotoWorld mentions, it is a bit crazy to give him a two year contract... make that really crazy. Let's just hope he didn't sucker Krivsky for another 2 mil/2 year deal (I can live with two years as long as the cash per season is a good deal lower.)

Amazing. Castro has started one game all month, and he's 7-for-32 since the beginning of August. It's one thing to bring him back for 2007, but there was absolutely no need to give him another multiyear contract, his third straight even though he's never hit .260 in a season. Castro is now 34, and if he's still an above average fielder, it's not by any great margin. He's a career .232/.271/.339 hitter. The contract certainly won't break the bank, but it still doesn't make much sense.

    925k, 975k, then a 1.1 mill option.

$100 says that option gets picked up.

A 1.1 million option for a middle infielder with very limited offensive abillities and defensive range who will be 36 or 37 then? I'd love to put Castro's agent on 24/7 call.

Or you could just call up Krivsky.

You can tell him you play the game the right way and he will say "signed, sealed, delivered, you're mine."

The one thing you have to admire about Castro is that he can always get these contracts despite having similar skill sets to so many minor league players. I like the guy and all, but that's a pretty nice living (and sense of job sercurity, considering what he brings to the table.)

He definitely plays the market the right way.
