i WAS surprised to see dunn hitting 2nd. how often has that happened this year? if more than 5 times, narron is a moron, since average is actually more important at the 2nd slot than almost any other position in the top 7 spots of the lineup.

I dont mind Dunn hitting second for a few reasons.

    1) It gives him more at bats to try to get out of the funk
    2) He still draws walks
    3) Griffey still has the respect of teams (when hes swinging well) and would usually provide pretty good protection.
    4) His OBP is .379
    5) His RISP is miserable which is not what you want from 3-4-5 hitters.
    6) Did I ever mention the number of walks he gets?
    7) The offense hasnt exactly been rocking recently (back to back shutouts anyone). Why not overhaul it and see what it can do another way?
    8) Oh ya he has a career .383 OBP.
    9) Hes drawn 41 BBs this year, which is 3rd in the NL behind some guy named Bonds and some dude named Abreu.

Until hes producing with RISP hes a glorified OBP machine with plus power. Let him bat 2nd and see if he cant get things going earlier in the lineup or someone steps up when he walks and drives him in.

    Hatteberg 1b
    Kearns rf

Aside from Dunn it leaves a little to be desired. I'd like to see kearns start hitting in the middle of the lineup, he's certainly been a more reliable hitter than griffey, aurilia, or hatteberg.
Flip Kearns and Aurilia and Id be thrilled with it.

i guess im a bit more old school in that your 2nd hole player should have both good average and good OBP. the reason why i say you should have a good average in the 2nd hole is that thats the position you will do any hit and run with with any regularity.

I didnt realize his RISP was that much worse than his regular average. i mean, hes batting .240 so he kind of is not much contact one way or the other!

he just doesnt seem to be a guy you would want to bat #2 for any stretch of time. though i WOULD have though hed be better at than womack until womack decided he needed to hit to feed his family.

I agree with Slyder. Narron has to do anything he can to get these guys in a groove. A new lineup is likely the best way to do it. I am seriously shocked at how badly this offense has been. I would fully support Narron tinkering with the lineup even further. He has to find something that fits.

Anyone else think we need another Todd Walker type hitter? Doesnt do anything great just everything solidly?

Todd Walker was nice and I was seriously hoping that Freel would be able to hit like him after last year's season. I always like Walker a lot so I guess I would have to say that I would like a guy like him for sure.

Sorry I wasn't around for the game today, but we were at the Taste of Cincinnati this afternoon (longest running "taste" in the country...in its 26th year this year I believe). Lots of good food today.

Anyway, another awful offensive effort, as Elizardo wasn't good today, but at least kept us in the game.

I do think Narron needs to do something with the lineup, but at this point I think he needs to leave the lineup ALONE for a while and try to get something going. It couldn't hurt to leave a lineup in place, as all have his shifting lineups haven't seemed to help.

Rick White= BLAH (please make him go away)
Mercker- is he still hurt?! I don't wish injury on him, but I almost hope so or else

Freel needs to be in that aforementioned lineup I just mentioned.
