Thread: Griffey Update

i've never understood the "freel plays too hard" thing either crf, sounds like all too much bs. charlie hustle played pretty hard, and i feel like i remember him playing for a long time and getting a lot of hits or something.

Him never being an everyday starteris a pretty good indication. Im not saying that he plays too hard. Im saying that the season is a marathon, and most players steadily go the whole way, while freel seems to sprint.

He hasn't started before because many didn't understand his on-base skills.

As Wally said, Rose hustled all of the time too and he has no problems playing all of the time. David Eckstein hustles really hard and he plays all of the time.

I just don't buy that argument.

I buy the argument that he isn't a very good hitter, and shouldn't start everyday.

Only if you are ignoring statistics from long sample sizes.

Nothing supports your theory that he isn't a very good hitter.

You might want to look at some facts.

He still has a .364 OBP on the year despite his horrific recent slump. He was off the charts good to start the year and has been off the charts bad lately.

Everything will balance out in the end.

He's got no power and we already have a leadoff hitter with Lopez. Freel's a nice utility guy, but once Junior's back he should be on the bench.

Felipe shouldn't be put in the leadoff spot. Once Freel gets his shit back together, we know he's gonna be an on-base and basestealing stud again, and probably the best leadoff man in the NL. When Griffey comes back and Freel stops slumping, Phillips should be on the bench 5 days a week.

Actually I like Phillips alot...he's coming out of his slump currently anyway. He's been hitting some rockets the last two nights.
