I'm not sure what to think of it. It's a bit pricey for only a half season of success, and now there's no spot for McCarthy until 2009. If he can continue that success though, it will be a good move.

Yea, I was thinking it was pricey for a 34 year old who did not look good in the 1st half last year. I guess their banking on the 2nd half being the true Contreras

Yes, they are, but that's because they (and I) know the difference between 1st half and 2nd half Contreras. 1st half Contreras's delivery was over the top, while 2nd half Contreras's delivery was from the 3/4 arm slot. As long as the pitching coaches can keep Contreras in the 3/4 arm slot, he should be as good as he was in the 2nd half last year.
