    White Sox Milledge DFA'd

White Sox designated OF Lastings Milledge for assignment.
Well, that didn't take long. Milledge made his first start of the season in left field Wednesday and looked very shaky defensively. Apparently the White Sox have already seen enough. Now 26 years old, we're sure he'll latch on somewhere, but he continues to be a disappointment.
The White Sox needed some relief pitching so Lastings had to go. I can see him clearing waivers and returning to the White Sox. Can't really think of any teams needing OF help this early. Maybe the Marlins?

Carries baggage and has never come close to once lofty expectations, that's a hard sell even for the dregs of the league.

On June 30, Milledge was traded along with reliever Joel Hanrahan to the Pittsburgh Pirates for outfielder Nyjer Morgan and reliever Sean Burnett.
Turns out the closers were the good parts of the deal, and not the drama queen outfielders.

2009 and 2010 Milledge raked against lefties, great average, more power, +.900 OPS in limited AB's last season, etc. I wonder if some team would take him on as a dirt cheap 5th OF and just stick him in against lefties.

He reminds me Daryle Ward, who had similar flaws a defensive liability, but could hit the ball real well, but both turned out not to live up to the hype. But Milledge is still young though, so you never know.
