    Tigers can talk to Rothschild

    Tigers can talk to Rothschild
    October 6, 2005

    BY MIKE KILEY

Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski received permission Wednesday evening from Cubs GM Jim Hendry to contact Larry Rothschild about becoming the Tigers' pitching coach.

But the Cubs also have offered Rothschild a contract to return next season as their pitching coach and remain optimistic that he will come back.

Rothschild worked with Jim Leyland, who took over as the Tigers' manager Tuesday, when Leyland managed the Florida Marlins. The Marlins won the 1997 World Series with Rothschild as Leyland's pitching coach.

With Leyland trying to adapt to the American League, Rothschild's AL background as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' former manager would be a big asset, as well as his vast knowledge of pitchers in both leagues.

I have read the Tigers don't have Larry as their number one guy, so we shall see.

I agree with the above statement.

Rothschild has already turned down the job citing that he didn't feel that he was done in Chicago yet.

Yeah Rothchild isn't done in Chicago yet. He's still got Carlos Zambrano's arm to ruin.
