ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Cubs pitching coach Larry Rothschild is reportedly in line to be Jim Leyland's pitching coach in Detroit.

Leyland, who was hired Tuesday as the Tigers' manager, had Rothschild as his pitching coach in Florida in 1997 when the Marlins won their first World Series. Detroit general manager Dave Dombrowski was GM in Florida at the time and has retained a good relationship with Rothschild.

Rothschild has been the Cubs' pitching coach since 2002, though his contract is up this year. General manager Jim Hendry said Tuesday the Tigers have not called to ask for permission to talk to Rothschild.

The Cubs are having organizational meetings in Chicago this week, and Hendry is expected to announce later in the week whether there will be any coaching changes. Manager Dusty Baker said in Houston on Friday that he expects his entire coaching staff back.

I like him, but it's not the end of the world if he leaves. We can find someone to replace him.
