Nomar ready for rehab games

Nomar Garciaparra can walk without limping. He can move toward a hard-hit grounder without panicking.

So Garciaparra, who has been out since April 20, when he tore his left groin muscle while leaving the batter's box, is ready to play tonight for the Class A Peoria Chiefs.

"I'm at the stage right now where it's time to go check it out in a game atmosphere,'' he said Monday night after the Cubs' 3-2 victory over San Francisco. "Everything's been going great.''

It's amazing he's almsot back. It's been only 3 months and it sounded like it would be much longer then that beforehand. Great work by him. Should help him with contract negotiations this winter.
