Cubs Kerry Wood to retire Friday

Chicago Cubs' Kerry Wood retiring, source says - ESPN Chicago

Sucks to see a 34 year old retire early like this, especially someone so beloved in Chicago. I have friends that are huge Cubs fans and their facebook pages have already become tributes to Wood. The former ROY earned just under $71 million in his 14 season career. I'll never forget that 20 K game he threw and is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear his name. I'm sure he will find a cushy job somewhere in the Cubs organization.

Kinda bummed, not gonna lie. I wish things had been a little different for he and Mark Prior.

Sad to see him go, but it's time.

    So many great memories.

I still have my Kerry Wood rookie card that I once thought was going to be worth a lot when he was hyped as the next Nolan Ryan.

It really is an end of an era. Not one player from the 2003 season will be around after this weekend. I actually can't believe it took this long.

What a rotation, at the time. Zambrano-Prior-Wood-Clement.

    Joe Borowski as closer.

I'm at lunch with Haf and he said, "He was Steven Stausburg and Mark Prior before it was cool to be Steven strausburg or mark prior."

    I think that's very apropos.

Love the ironic use of the word "dusty"

.....Zod. "Steven Stausburg" and "Steven Strausburg"
