Soriano having his usual once a year surge.
He's actually been pretty good since switching to a lighter bat, which Cubs fans have been asking for seasons. His K rate has been down, and he instantly started hitting home runs again.
I'm sure eventually he'll slump again. But it's nice to see.
Two in a row?
Cubs sweep on a Darwin Barney walk off.. with the wind blowing in..............
Looks like it's fire sale time:
Heyman is reporting Castro is not involved so who the heck knows. Cubs could get some very good pieces for Garza and Dempster and with teams like the Phillies and Tigers needing pitching, they shouldn't be hard to move.Quote:
According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Cubs are telling teams that "nearly everyone but starter Jeff Samardzija is available."
Some names on that list you've heard before: Matt Garza, Ryan Dempster, Carlos Marmol and Alfonso Soriano, amongst others. Apparently club president Theo Epstein is open to moving Starlin Castro as well. Castro "can be obtained for two impact prospects," according to Nightengale. Bryan LaHair could provide pop for a contender. Trading him would open the door for top prospect Anthony Rizzo. Epstein has never shown an aversion for taking risks, so this situation warrants monitoring. On August 1, Chicago's roster may look nothing like it does today.
Yeah, Castro is going to need an offer we can't refuse. He's about as untouchable as it gets.
I could see this team looking very different after the deadline. Even though I'm still for extending Garza, as long as he isn't looking for 100M.
Sweep to getting swept.
At least the draft is tomorrow!
We can't even beat the Twins
Bus ride to Wrigley tomorrow! It's going to be super fun getting wasted while Verlander owns us.
Finally get to watch a game and Randy Wells is pitching. Great.
By the way, even though the Cubs lost to Detroit, the trip and day was awesome.
24 games under .500 after being swept by the DBacks.
Well, at least it looks like Rizzo will be getting called up in a few days. Most reporters are saying Tuesday to avoid Santana.
