    Cubs Has Pena awoken?

Pena has two hits in his last two games, both of them HRs. They were the first HRs he has hit in a Cubs uniform and it took him til May to do so. No doubt he has been a huge disappointment this far but is this the turning point? Pena has a batting line of .169/.293/.260 and has even been a bit slow on defense. Cubs really need him to turn it on if they want to stay near the top of the weak NL Central all year.

Speaking of turning it on, Soriano has 11 HRs so far but too bad he only has three walks and a lousy .274 OBP. He hit only 24 HRs all of last year. If the Cubs can get Ramirez and Pena to starting catching up to Soriano in the power department, the Cubs could be a force. Cubs are 16th in HRs and could be doing a lot better.

A lot of things need to happen for the Cubs to keep in contention.

First we need Randy Wells and Andrew Cashner to come back and be solid. They are beginning to throw off mounds, which is encouraging. Every time Russell has made the start, it felt like they were just waving the white flag. Coleman hasn't impressed me either. Second, we need Pena to continue hitting the ball out of the park. A whole month and then some with no power from him really kept the club down. I'm not certain he's completely awake yet and will need a few more bombs before I will believe he is. Third, we need Aramis to start driving in runs like he has throughout his career. As a team overall, hitting with RISP has been painful to watch this year (were used to this as Cubs fans). And fourth, we need to beat the teams within our division. The NL Central is tight still, and beating these guys will be essential to any hope at the playoffs.

To only be 2 games under .500 at this point is absolutely amazing.

Looks like Doug Davis is doing OK on his way back to the ML level.

What's crazy, even with Soriano and Pena having completely awful OBP's, the Cubs are not even close to being the worst. The Twins!..are under .300 as a team. Holy shitstraps.

Pena is now hitting .228/.354/.348 with 12 RBI now. He is definitely waking up.

Now if he can get his slugging up we're in business.

Pena is a very streaky hitter. He'll go on a tear and then strike put 15 times in his next 20 ABs. He should hit a few homers for the Cubs, but I don't see him ever being a high average hitter.

When referring to Carlos Pena I don't think we can ever say he has awoken for sure. He is so hit and miss. He may look lights out on week hitting 3 plus homeruns and then the next week go 0-24 with 13 strikeouts. He will always be this type of play with ups and downs.
