http://twitter.com/#!/Joelsherman1/status/120209943642112000I am shocked, but in last 36 hrs every exec talk to says believe #Redsox will give permssion and Theo will go to #Cubs to be GM
Pretty interesting tweet.

This has been picking up some smoke. I can only hope there's a real flame behind it.

Well, I haven't seen any news about the Sawx giving permission, but most are saying they will.
There's also been a lot of speculation that Boston will seek compensation, should Theo and Ricketts come to an agreement. This has led to talks of Castro & Garza for Theo, and Brett Jackson & Trey McNutt(the Cubs top two prospects) for Theo.
Of course that was mostly coming from writers who are known to be wrong most of the time, and Red Sox fans from other forums.
I can see them seeking cash, but to expect the Cubs two best players, or two best prospects, would be insane.

Yeah no chance in hell the Cubs give up Castro, Garza or any top prospect for a GM.
It's good to hear a fan from an outside team agree.
What's sad is, as idiotic as it sounds, with the Cubs history, I wouldn't put it completely past them to do something so stupid.

I can see money switching hands and maybe a player who can provide organizational depth but not a top player or prospect. I read what Gammons said yesterday and I just laughed. Who would orchestrate the deal? Ricketts? Epstein working the deal for himself?
Exactamundo! Why in the world would Epstein agree to come to the Cubs if it meant he had to give up a role player of the future? Why would he stick around Boston if they agreed to the interview only to botch it with such a demand? The speculation is very laughable. I just want a resolution soon.

Back when Billy Beane agreed to become the Red Sox GM, he worked out a deal with the A's in which he, as the Red Sox GM, would give up Kevin Youkilis (but reluctantly). The deal fell through when Beane had second thoughts about leaving the A's, and the Red Sox GM job eventually went to Epstein. So, it's not unreasonable that the Red Sox, like the A's then, would expect a top prospect for the right to poach their GM.

They can ask all day long.
I agree that the situation could be similar. But I think the Cubs are going to offer him the president position instead of just GM. It's like an unwritten rule in business to allow employees the chance to move up.
I just don't think that the Red Sox are going to ask for a top prospect, and I don't think the Cubs would agree to giving up a top prospect. Now say they ask for just a decent prospect, then it's a whole different situation.

Maybe it'll be for Carlos Zambrano... he so needs to team up with John Lackey.
Marshall: MILSWANCAs?
Ted: Wait, I can get this. Mothers I'd like to sleep with and never call again.
Barney: Circle gets the square!

The Sox owner and president were interviewed today and tip-toed around questions about Theo and the Cubs. Saying they don't discuss granting permission publicly. But they literally said, "Theo isn't going to be GM forever", and "there is a certain shelf life to these jobs". IMO it seems like they are foreshadowing that Theo could possibly be leaving.
However, Jon Heyman said:http://twitter.com/#!/SI_JonHeyman/status/122392862011822080People around the game getting idea that, unless something changes, theo will stay with #redsox
Gahh, this is draining!

If I'm the Red Sox, why would I let you have the architect behind our two World Series winning teams in return for just a "decent" prospect when we both know he's worth much more than that?
